Scale up tailoring production – Kenya
SUPPORTING A TAILORING BUSINESS IN KIBERA, THE LARGEST SLUM IN AFRICA
Kibera is a division of the Nairobi area in Kenya. It is the largest slum in Africa and the third-largest in the world.
Our local partner, Dolas Creation runs a tailoring production in Kibera.
Through his business, Mr Fredrick Ating´a, CEO and Founder of Dolas Creation, creates job opportunities for Kibera citizens. Also, he tends to increase the sales of the local products in Nairobi, and in Kibera itself.
We support this local business to scale up and through offering a job to create a better living standard for Kibera inhabitants.
THE STORY OF MR FREDRICK ATING´A, THE FOUNDER OF DOLAS CREATION
Mr Fredrick Ating’a was born in Bondo, the Western part of Kenya. Already as a child, he had a great interest in fashion. When he was a little boy, he admired his grandfather, who loved dressing in African clothes.
After completing his college studies, he worked in various institutions. However, he realized it was not his calling.
The love for African fashion and passion for inspiring, educating, and empowering local artisans and craftsmen drove Frederick Ating’a to start Dolas Creation. He located his business in Kibera, the largest slum in Africa.
But insufficient funds hindered the business growth. Fredrick needed resources to improve the quality of the service and to market his products.
Partnership with Action10 and HR&S enabled Fredrick to grow the business and consequently offer job opportunities to local craftsmen and artisans.
USER-DRIVEN PROGRAMME, ACCOUNTABILITY MANAGEMENT, AND SUSTAINABLE ECONOMY
All Action10 programmes are user-driven. It means that the partners and local social entrepreneurs ideate, initiate, and manage the programme.
Accountability management is one of our ActionAreas. We offer this service to our loan takers and partners. Read more about how we work regarding accountability management and sustainable economy on Human Rights & Science website.
